The Christmas edition of getting to know your blog friends

Welcome to the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends. Okay, here’s what you’re supposed to do, and try not to be a SCROOGE!!! Just copy this entire post and paste onto your blog. Change all the answers so that they apply to you. Tis the season to be NICE!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both, depends on the size of the gift but I do better with bags.

2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial.

3. When do you put up the tree? I don’t put one up at home but the one at my Mom’s house goes up sometime after 12/5.  My college roommate’s Bday is 12/5 and we never did Christmas until after 12/5 and I still don’t.

4. When do you take the tree down? New Years week.

5. Do you like eggnog? yes with booze :-)

6. Favorite gift received as a child? A play house that my dad built.  He built it right in front of me as a shed but Christmas morning it was painted and dressed up with a big bow and the address 2222 1/2 Pepper Rd painted on it, that was our address in Florida.

7. Hardest person to buy for?  My brother, he lives in Austin now and I don’t always know what he needs or is into if he doesn’t give me a list.

8. Easiest person to buy for? Leslie, I aways have some idea for her.

9. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, at my Mom’s house, it as always been my job to put it out.  Kinda funny for those of you who know me don’t ya think.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail when I get around to it but I always email my Solstice greetings on the Winter Solstice.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Things that were just given to give a gift that I knew was a “regift”.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? A Christmas Story!  I also love Miracle on 34th Street

13. When do you start shopping? When I have money :-)

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? No

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?  Baked goods, including fruit cake, we have an old fruit cake receipt that our family has made for years.  Yes we send them to people, and if the usual folks don’t get one they are calling wondering when it will be arriving.  My brother and I call them booze logs since they are soaked in brandy.

16. Lights on the tree? Old fashion big colored lights

17. Favorite Christmas song? God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen  and Deck the Halls

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Home

19 Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel

20 Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Morning

21. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? How stressed people get and that it is more about gifts than about the joy of the season.

22 Favorite ornament theme or color? Snowpeople

23. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Posole that we have Christmas Eve

24. What do you want for Christmas this year? Not a darn thing that I can think of.

25. Who is most likely to respond to this? The other blog folk.

This was fun, made me think of some fun Christmas memories to start off the holiday season.  Hope everyone enjoys the holiday season and doesn’t put to much stress on themselves.

Bright Blessings!

Fall Foliage

Today we took a drive up thur the Mesilla Valley in New Mexico, this part of the Rio Grande is in between El Paso and Las Cruces, NM.  We had a very enjoyable day, we did some more geocaching and the went to Old Mesilla to have lunch at La Posta http://www.laposta-de-mesilla.com/.  We enjoyed some more great Mexican food, this time with a New Mexican flavor.

It was a nice day to explore the valley, we saw cotton and pecans being harvested and enjoyed the plaza and it’s shops in Old Mesilla.  Our weather has been mild and the Southwest foliage is lovely this year.

Treasure Hunting

I started my holiday vacation today with a treasure hunt.

My cousins go Geocaching and today they took PJ and I along to learn a bit about the hobby.  I had read something about it somewhere so I had some idea but here is the official description from the website:

http://www.geocaching.com/

“Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.”

It was fun, we found 4 of the 5 cache that we were looking for, it got dark and we didn’t have a light with us.  I got to go to some places in the area that I had never been before.

The Parkers

The Parkers

We went found one down near the Rio Grande, here is the description of where the cache was hidden.
Visit the area where El Paso was born. The historical birth of modern El Paso dates back to 1536 when the first Europeans set foot in the Pass of the North. In 1598, Spanish explorer Juan de Oñáte camped on the banks of the Río Grande and crossed a site west of the present downtown area which he called “El Paso Del Río del Norte”, meaning the cropping of the river. This was the first use of the name “El Paso”. The Spanish ruled this area for nearly 300 years. México took over El Paso in 1821 and in 1827 Juan María Ponce de León built the first house on the north bank of the Rio Grande. Thirty years later, El Paso acquired its first post office and stage line.
We found one in the desert in west El Paso, where our starting point was in a really nice park that I’d never seen before, we walked out into the desert and found it under a cactus.

After our walk in the desert we met up with Robert and Joe Robert who had spent some time in the park getting their slide on,  Joe Robert had to show Mom how good he was on the slide.

After our in the dark aborted hunt we went to one of my favorite eateries, The Riviera, which has great Mexican food.   PJ was a good boy and waited in his crate while we ate dinner, he was rewarded with dog cookies so he was happy.

Lindy meets a kid

Lindy and Dublin follow Joe Robert around

My cousin Bonnie and her family husband Robert and their son Joe Robert are visiting for Thanksgiving.  Bonnie is the baby of our family and now her baby is the baby.  We don’t have a lot of little kids visiting.   Today Lindy got to hang out with us, we didn’t want to overwhelm the kid with a pack of Cardigans.   She thought he was pretty interesting, I think he is pretty cute.

I Love it when a plan comes together

I’m going to go visit the grandbabies in mid December.  I’ll go up to see Polly, Pip and the Pups in Colorado in a couple of weeks.  Everything just fell into place, cheap plane fare, a free car rental and a comp day at work so I don’t have to use any vacation time.  It will be a quick trip up and back but well worth it!  I just wish Kathy D could come along too.
