The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is an ancient breed developed in Cardiganshire, Wales. The Cardigan is not related to the better known Pembroke Welsh Corgi, famously known as the Queen’s dog. There are more differences than just the Corgi with or without the tail.
The Cardigan is a big dog with short legs. Bitches average between 25-30 pounds and males range between 35-40 pounds. They are affectionate, loyal and very intelligent. They are a people oriented dog but can be aloof with strangers. Cardigans excel at most events and make excellent herding, agility, obedience and tracking partners.
Cardigan have a long lifespan averaging between 13-15 years. The Cardigan’s double coat is prone to shedding throughout the year.
