Coughing and snorting

July 16, 2009

Poor Solstice dogs, looks like we have a case of Kennel cough at our house.  Charlie’s mom Cody’s son Ryan got two rescue Sibe, Sibe crosses and somebody had the cough, Charlie must have been the carrier.  Charlie sent last some time over here right after the 4th and then hung out with us on Saturday.  Yesterday PJ started coughing so I’m expecting the other to start any day now.  I had it at home once before years ago when I had a GSP rescue that brought it home from the pound, but there were not as many dogs at my house then only 3, now there are 6 plus the Flea next door.  Guess we will wait it out.

Sorry to hear that. Does that mean that Charlie did not show signs of the cough, but was only the carrier? I don’t know much about kennel cough.

Is the weather any better? Did you mean that you will just have to keep the dogs away from any other dogs until everybody stops coughing?

Mr C was the Typhoid Mary of this thing. He never really showed signs and Cody didn’t know what it was before Charlie had exposed all of us. So far only Daddy Dog is coughing a lot. I’m hoping everyone else will be ok but I’m expecting everyone to get it. I can tell PJ doesn’t feel great since he is not bugging the Flea as much as usual. They will just have to all stay home until the feel better.

Dennis had kennel cough when we got him from rescue. It sounded horrible, but fortunately it didn’t last long.

Man, been there done that. We had it go through the house two years ago. Moose brought it home after being exposed at a show. He coughed once-that was it and I figured it was just him hacking some fur after a wrestling match. By then he had exposed all the other dogs.

Funny thing though-any dog under two in the house never showed signs, but the oldest dogs got it worse, even having two develop into pneumonia in 24 hours after the first cough.

Per my vet, even if I had innoculated all of them previously, it was a new strain and they would have gotten it anyway.

Good luck and hope no one gets too sick.
